Professor Amnon Ginati joined OHB-System, Germany in 1990 where he was Director of Advanced Systems, Satellites & Probes. In October 2000 he joined the European Space Agency (ESA, ESTEC) as Head of the Earth Observation Future Programmes Department. Thereafter, he was special adviser to ESA Director General, Head of the Inter Directorate Taskforce responsible for the initiation and development of the Integrated Applications Promotion (IAP) programme.

European GNSS Agency (GSA)

Carlo des Dorides was nominated the Executive Director of the European GNSS Agency in January 2011. Before taking office, Mr. des Dorides had key management responsibilities at the European Commission, DG Enterprise. In particular, he was responsible for the definition of the Galileo/EGNOS exploitation phase. Before joining the Commission, Mr. des Dorides was Head of the Concession Department at the European GNSS Supervisory Authority and, in this same function, he served as chief negotiator of the Galileo Public–Private–Partnership/ Concession contract at the Galileo Joint Undertaking. Prior to his work with the European Union, Mr. des Dorides was Director of Programs and Engineering at ENAV (Ente Nazionale Assistenza al Volo).

Gian Gherardo Calini took up his post as Head of Market Development at the GSA in December 2006. Prior to joining the GSA, he held business management responsibilities in the service and transportation industries. He built his management experience working for McKinsey, Procter and Gamble, Citigroup and in the transportation sector. Mr. Calini has a Doctorate in Economics and commercial engineering from La Sapienza University in Rome and a Master in Business Administration from INSEAD in Fontainebleau.

Mauro FACCHINI

Mauro FACCHINI is Italian and has an engineering background with a PhD in Mechanical Engineering. Before joining the European Commission he has worked in Italy, UK and Switzerland, mostly in the academic and research environment. He joined the European Commission in 2002 where he was initially involved in the management of research projects funded by the EU. Mauro Facchini was then involved in Space aspects and participated to the definition of the European Space Policy from its early days by concluding the Framework agreement with ESA and in drafting and including article 189 (EU Space Competence) in the Lisbon Treaty. From 2006 to 2012 he worked to the development of the European Earth Observation programme (GMES) and in Space Research matters. He is at present the Head of the Unit for the operation of Copernicus services.

Galileo Project Manager, EC

Paul Flament is a Belgian Civil Engineer, specialised in Telecommunications. He has been working 11 years in the European Space Agency, for space missions control centres and for the design and development of telecommunication satellites. Following a Masters in European Studies, he joined the European Commission in 1998. Paul Flament is Head of the EU Satellite Navigation Programme Unit.

Roya Ayazi
Secretary General of NEREUS

Since 2009 Secretary General of NEREUS Roya Ayazi is the key interlocutor for the NEREUS (Network of European Regions Using Space Technologies) at EU-level and heads its Brussels/Belgium based secretariat. Roya’s core responsibilities comprise advocacy and political interest representation towards the European institutions, liaising with relevant organizations, international collaborations as well as the overall coordination of the network activities. Roya worked for almost 15 years in European Affairs. Prior to her current position she held different positions related to EU-Affairs and advocacy in the R&D-sector. From 2001-2008 Roya worked as adviser for the Association of German Engineers (VDI-Verein Deutscher Ingenieur) in their Brussels based representation. Roya has a sound knowledge of EU-legislative procedures and relevant EU-policies and programs. She studied law at the Free University of Berlin/Germany and is trained with two German Juridical State Exams.

Simon JUTZ
Copernicus Space Office

Simon Jutz was nominated Head of ESA’s Copernicus Space Office in April 2014, responsible for coordinating ESA’s Copernicus activities and liaising with the EC, national bodies, industry, and ESA delegations. Mr. Jutz joined ESA in 1992 with key management responsibilities as Head of User Services and Mission Planning Office in the Earth Observation Programmes Directorate and Operational Lead and Executive Secretariat Member of the International Charter Space and Major Disasters. Prior to his ESA career, Mr. Jutz worked as scientific coordinator and lecturer at the Remote Sensing Working Group of the University of Munich and research fellow at the Central Institute for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing of the Germany Research Foundation. Mr. Jutz holds a Diplom degree in Geology with specialization in Remote Sensing and Ore Prospection from the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich.
